Poem of Thanksgiving by the Mountain Gardener"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Once upon a time<\/strong> when our area was under the sea<br \/>\nthere were no parks or trails or trees or gardens.<br \/>\nI&#8217;m thankful that our mountains rose from an ancient ocean<br \/>\nand we can now enjoy this beautiful place we call home.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3195\" 307px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3195\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mini pumpkins, Indian corn and redbud leaves<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong> I&#8217;m thankful for<\/strong> <strong>the bigleaf maples<\/strong> with leaves as big as saucers<br \/>\nand for the giant redwoods that sprouted long ago<br \/>\nand the five-fingered ferns that grow lush<br \/>\nalong <em>Fall Creek<\/em> on the way to the old lime kilns.<\/p>\n<p><strong>I&#8217;m thankful for<\/strong> <strong>the pond and western turtles who live at Quail Hollow<\/strong><br \/>\nand for the unique sandhills, grasslands and redwoods<br \/>\nand for the western bluebirds and other creatures that call it home.<\/p>\n<p><strong>I&#8217;m thankful for<\/strong> <strong>the dog park and soccer field at Skypark<\/strong><br \/>\nwhere little kids and dogs both big and small have a place of their own<br \/>\nand for the picnic area and Fourth of July fireworks,<br \/>\nand the Art and Wine festival \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3197\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Grocery-bag turkey<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>I?m thankful also for<\/strong> <strong>all our parks<\/strong> from Garrahan, Junction, Highlands<br \/>\nand Felton Covered Bridge in San Lorenzo Valley,<br \/>\nto Lodato, Siltanen and MacDorsa in Scotts Valley.<br \/>\nEach place is unique and is each one of us.<\/p>\n<p><strong>I&#8217;m thankful for<\/strong> <strong>Bonny Doon<\/strong> where I can see both sides of Ben Lomond Mountain<br \/>\nand for the Ecological Reserve with its fossilized marine animals and sharks teeth<br \/>\nthat are exposed in the mountain made of sand.<\/p>\n<p><strong>I&#8217;m thankful for California&#8217;s oldest state park.<\/strong> Big Basin, with its waterfalls and lush canyons<br \/>\nand slopes covered with redwoods sorrel, violets, fragrant azaleas and mountain iris<br \/>\nand for the banana slugs, marbled murrelets and red-legged frogs who make it their blowing across the water at Loch Lomond<\/strong><br \/>\nand for the gentle whir of fishing reels along the bank,<br \/>\nthick with tan oaks, redwoods and madrone.<\/p>\n<p><strong>And finally, I&#8217;m thankful for friends, family and neighbors<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>who share the knowledge that in nature life continues.<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Look around you and be thankful for the bounty, the restfulness,<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>and take time to enjoy these beautiful mountains that we call home.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>I wish you all a Happy
