{"id":47820,"date":"2024-11-22T08:40:29","date_gmt":"2024-11-22T16:40:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jannelsonlandscapedesign.com\/wordpress\/?p=47820"},"modified":"2024-11-22T08:40:29","modified_gmt":"2024-11-22T16:40:29","slug":"a-poem-of-thanksgiving-by-the-mountain-gardener-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jannelsonlandscapedesign.com\/wordpress\/2024\/11\/22\/a-poem-of-thanksgiving-by-the-mountain-gardener-2\/","title":{"rendered":"A Poem of Thanksgiving by The Mountain Gardener"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"474\" height=\"356\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/jannelsonlandscapedesign.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/images\/2024\/11\/Redwood-forest.jpg?resize=474%2C356&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-47821\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/jannelsonlandscapedesign.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/images\/2024\/11\/Redwood-forest-scaled.jpg?resize=510%2C383&amp;ssl=1 510w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/jannelsonlandscapedesign.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/images\/2024\/11\/Redwood-forest-scaled.jpg?resize=350%2C263&amp;ssl=1 350w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/jannelsonlandscapedesign.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/images\/2024\/11\/Redwood-forest-scaled.jpg?resize=240%2C180&amp;ssl=1 240w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/jannelsonlandscapedesign.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/images\/2024\/11\/Redwood-forest-scaled.jpg?resize=1536%2C1152&amp;ssl=1 1536w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/jannelsonlandscapedesign.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/images\/2024\/11\/Redwood-forest-scaled.jpg?resize=2048%2C1536&amp;ssl=1 2048w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/jannelsonlandscapedesign.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/images\/2024\/11\/Redwood-forest-scaled.jpg?w=948&amp;ssl=1 948w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/jannelsonlandscapedesign.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/images\/2024\/11\/Redwood-forest-scaled.jpg?w=1422&amp;ssl=1 1422w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 474px) 100vw, 474px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><strong>We are fortunate to live in such a beautiful place.<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>Once upon a time<\/strong> when our area was under water<br \/>there were no parks or trails or trees or gardens.<br \/>I&#8217;m thankful that our mountains rose from an ancient ocean<br \/>so we could enjoy this beautiful place we call home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>I&#8217;m thankful for<\/strong> the Big-Leaf maples<br \/>that shower me with leaves as big as saucers<br \/>as I walk in Henry Cowell along the river trail<br \/>and for the giant redwoods that sprouted long ago<br \/>at the time of he Mayan civilization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>I&#8217;m thankful for<\/strong> the Five-fingered ferns that grow lush along<br \/>the lower parts of Fall Creek<br \/>and for the canyons, hiking trails and small waterfalls<br \/>that feed the year-round creek.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>I&#8217;m thankful for<\/strong> the Covered Bridge in Felton,<br \/>for the violinist who serenades us as walk over the river<br \/>for the sound of children laughing as they play in the park<br \/>and the gentle horses who live at the equestrian center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>I\u2019m thankful for<\/strong> all our other parks like Garrahan and Junction Park in Boulder Creek,<br \/>Highlands Park in Ben Lomond, and Sky Park, Lodato, MacDorsa, Siltanen<br \/>and Hocus Pocus in Scotts Valley,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>I&#8217;m thankful fo<\/strong>r the western turtles who live at the Quail Hollow pond<br \/>and for the unique sand hills, grasslands, wildflowers, oaks, redwoods<br \/>and for the unique plants, birds and other small creatures that live only there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>I&#8217;m thankful for<\/strong> Bonny Doon where you can see both the Pacific Ocean<br \/>and the San Lorenzo and Scotts Valleys<br \/>for the resilience of the people recovering after the fire<br \/>on the mountain made of sandstone and shale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>I&#8217;m thankful <\/strong>that Big Basin State Park, where redwood sorrel, violets and mountain iris<br \/>once covered the slopes and lush canyons and is recovering<br \/>as are the salamanders, banana slugs, marbled murrelets<br \/>and red-legged frogs who make it their home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>I&#8217;m thankful for<\/strong> the whisper of the wind blowing across the water at Loch Lomond<br \/>And for the gentle whir of fishing reels, the inlets accessible by quiet boats and trails<br \/>where you can enjoy the tanoak, redwood and madrone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>And finally, I&#8217;m thankful for friends and family and neighbors who share all this with me.<br \/>There\u2019s always something to be grateful for.
