This beautiful garden is located in the Zayante area of Felton. The soil is sandy and the deer are quite at home here. The clients had several requests on their wish list to be incorporated in the final design. They had waited for over 10 years to do something with the area and they wanted to have their dream garden realized. They had collected pictures of gardens and plants that they liked which they hoped could be an inspiration for their garden.

The clients work out of their home and the views from their offices were important considerations. Fruit trees, herbs, grasses and colorful perennials were included throughout the garden. The main patio was redesigned making it larger and more useable.

A small wall with seating cap was created to separate the garden rooms. This area is not yet installed as the clients wanted to start with the south side which would contain the patio seating areas on each side of the stream. One of the wish list items for this area was to be able to get to the side of the stream so the client could rinse out the natural dyes that she uses on fabrics. Steps were designed with boulders and flat stones to create a natural landing. A flagstone patio was created under the wisteria arbor for sitting and paths leading to the utility area and the other side of the garden were incorporated. Accent boulders are grouped to tie the steps and patios to the site. The streamside has been planted with bog plants that crowd out the weeds that were an unsightly yearly occurance.

The clients have been enjoying their new environment and are looking forward to starting the other half of their dream garden.

The clients wished to use the area in front of this shed for an alternate sitting area in the afternoon shade. Also they wished for another small patio and sitting area across the creek to be able to view the house and garden from another vantage point. They also wished to eliminate the yearly weeding on the banks of the creek and have something pretty and colorful to view instead of weeds.

Wisteria cover the arbor attached to the shed and shade the new sitting area. Bearded iris, New Zealand flax and small grasses planted in pockets in the flagstone patio enclose the area. The banks of the creek were planted with tough Shasta daisies to outcompete the annual weeds. On the other side of the bridge, another flagstone patio was installed to accommodate a small seating area and is surrounded by tough perennials which attract butterflies and birds.
