Sandhill Garden

    patio area (before)
This property is located in the very sandy hills of Ben Lomond. The owner wished to unify the backyard which was essentially divided in two by a small fence. She spends a lot of time outside reading under the plum tree and wanted a new look. Also she wished a space to grow vegetables as well as flowers. The existing long planter boxes for her perennials were to remain. She already had plans for a new fence inside the old wire fence to keep her dog and the neighbors from touching noses and barking at each other. The client does not mind tending to the garden, cleaning plants and doing light pruning. She likes flowers and color to enjoy while she is outside and also can see the garden from her sunroom that she uses more extensively in the winter months.

    patio area (after)
The new patio was at first to be stained concrete but in the end the client chose a beautiful buff shade of flagstone to match the new walkways. Also a small existing patio was covered with flagstone to unify the garden. Sonoma fieldstone was used to build retaining walls and replace the failing wooden planter boxes. New perennials with lots of color were planted around the borders. Stairs were installed to allow access from the upper lawn area to the lower side by the new fence.
